Choose The Feel You Want- Before you start thinking about any furniture, the colours anything like that you need a direction to be heading in. Pick a feel that you want people to feel or yourself to feel when you are in your office. Whether that is a homley feel, professional, modern, girly, vintage what ever it is you would like but just get a feel you would like and head in that direction. I went for a very homely and professional and a bit of a modern twist feel to my own office at home.
Coordinate EVERYTHING- Because an office isn't a giant space if you have lots going on with different colours everywhere its going to look a mess and not feel like a professional space where you want to work. You need to keep a colour scheme within a office lets say if you have white and black with a pop of yellow that needs to be carried out through out the whole room you can't have a pop of yellow then some pink and then a bit of green oh and a touch of blue CHAOS! Keep it simple so it is simple to coordinate everything in the office to match!
Simple and Clean- Keeping an office really simple to me looks best. It adds a really professional look to your office. If you have books and papers and a huge storing cabinet filled to the brim that can look messy! I know there is so much stuff to store away in an office but one thing I recommend is getting a desk with big spacious draws. I also think having draws looks a lot neater and tidier than having a cabinet, as I said before adds a simple look!
Have a Statement Piece- At the end of the day this is your office its not at an office building so why keep it boring old black and white or grey add one statment to your office, it will mark it as your own and who wants a depressing looking office. Whether thats a chair, a desk or a very eye catching accessory, just make sure this tip is only used in a simple room not a very busy looking colourful office.
Divide the Room- I have quite a large office and this is an idea for the ones with big offices, divide the room into to sections I used a long what I call buffet unit I don't know what it is actually called but I have just a long chest of draws to seperate where my desk and computer is my 'work station' and then I have my consultation area that has a couch a tv ect where my Clients and I just chat about ideas! This something I Love about my office, you could also use a shelving unit to do this.
Give Yourself A View...But Have Privavcy- You may be like um what Sammie?! But what I mean by this is that you shoud give your self a nice view of something whether that is of the park across the street, your back or front yard or the ocean in my case because this will motivate you too work.. Well for me it does anyways but also if you have clients coming to your house like I do its more inviting for them. But also keep your privacy make sure you include some type of blinds, I like to keep them half way down so I can still see the beautiful ocean and get sunlight in but I know people aren't staring in at me working. I also think feature blinds are really nice in an office!
